This DVD looks at the countryside, historic buildings, lakes, waterways, hidden lanes and gardens that exist within the city of Birmingham's boundaries.

Birmingham to some unfamiliar with the city has an image of industrial greyness. To residents the image is very different. Birmingham has long been a very green city with a splendid array of centuries old buildings and thousands of acres of parkland.

This DVD has been filmed over three years and whilst many well known beauty spots are included, there are many scenes revealing areas of truly secret beauty. These include babbling brooks, lanes that have remained as they were before urbanisation, and many historic buildings, all wholly within the city boundaries.

Birmingham is fast becoming a very exciting city with its world class Symphony Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC), the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), and the Broad Street and Brindley Place renaissance development. This is captured by the DVD.

This DVD is without narration. Beautiful light classical music complements the moods of each section.

The moods are:

  • introduction;
  • the green city;
  • out at play;
  • bricks and mortar;
  • everything in the garden is lovely;
  • sailing by;
  • transportation;
  • right up to date;
  • in the deep mid winter;
  • cornucopia;
  • esteem; and
  • sunset credits.

We produced this DVD to mark the end of the 20th century in a great city. This is a record of Birmingham to treasure that has won widespread acclaim for its new approach.

This is an archive DVD that we continue to sell because of its popularity.

This is a brand new shrink-wrapped DVD which we, as the copyright holder and producer of the DVD, duplicated and which we sell on our site and on eBay.

Customer comments

"I was delighted to receive the [DVD] Birmingham and its secret beauty. It is a very fine product - I would like to help promote it." (Mr Ian McArdle, 1999 Lord Mayor of Birmingham, UK)

"I have recently watched Birmingham and its secret beauty. A really lovely production both visual and well matched with such lovely music. How can I purchase two copies of this [DVD]? I particularly want to send one to a friend originally from here who married an Australian." (Mr Chatham, Birmingham, UK)

"I am enquiring whether your excellent [DVD] of "Birmingham and its secret beauty" is still available for sale. I have just finished watching this tape, lent to me by my friend and am anxious to now have my own copy to keep and watch again and again. I was amazed at the amount of footage and the delights you uncovered and all put together in such a grand array of colours and variety and all accompanied by such musical delights! Please, please say it is not discontinued and no longer available for I have tramped around the city today without success, although the shops were sympathetic to my queries. Do you have a catalogue of any other [DVDs] in the same vein for I am sure they would be of the same excellence and just as enjoyable viewing, especially during the dark winter nights. Thanking you for your attention and hopeful of a successful reply?" (Mrs Frier, Birmingham, UK)
